NGO Sustainability Index for Albania 2011
The continued political standoff prevented NGOs from setting a more constructive tone for debate around policy and reform issues during 2010 in Albania. Public skepticism over NGOs’ objectivity and independence remains relatively high. Overall, the financial viability of the NGO sector deteriorated slightly in 2010.
This comes as a consequence of poor coordination among the donor community, state, and civic actors; the lack of an international donor strategy to support the third sector in the pre-EU accession phase; and the slow pace of NGOs’ efforts to diversify their financial resources. These are some of the highlights of USAID annual NGO Sustainability Index for Albania 2010 which was prepared by IDM civil society experts. The Index analyzes seven different dimensions of the NGO environment in 29 countries worldwide: legal environment, organizational capacity, financial viability, advocacy, public image, service provision, and NGO infrastructure.
IDM experts are currently working on the 2011 Sustainability Index for Albania which is to be launched in Spring 2012 by USAID.
