The Structure
IDM structure consists of three core departments / programme areas:
1. Center for European and Security Affairs (CESA)
CESA represents IDM’s specialized research unit, whose activities are conducted by experienced researchers and scholars in an effort to promote excellence of research, studies and policy options related to “Europeanization” reforming efforts in the country. Its mission is to advance European and security studies, research & analysis and to develop human capacities at the national and regional level that will serve contemporary challenges for reform, integration processes and cooperation of the security sector through an educational (capacity building) and problem-solving approach to encourage informed debate.
2. Local Governance and Integrated Development (LGID)
IDM’s vision under this programme area is to promote civic participation in the local decision-making processes and to increase the accountability of decision-making actors at local level vis-à-vis the citizenry. Since the inception of the organization in 1999, the efforts have focused on the improvement of local governance through community development, capacity building for community-based groups and contribution toward decentralization processes.
3. Research and Innovation Initiative (RII)
The Research and Innovation Initiative (RII) represents a cross-cutting scheme involving in permanent consultations the Institute’s policy analysts (PhD and MA level), program managers and selected associates with the purpose to develop innovative proposal advancing IDM’s performance and quality of services under the existing areas of expertise and to expand the focus of work responding to forthcoming challenges. In addition to these tasks, RII provides guidance, support and expertise to the Institute’s efforts to influence policy agenda / policy making processes through the preparation of various policy documents and the design of the framework of instruments which are necessary for successful advocacy of policy options among decision makers, expert community, interest groups and the public at large.
